Initial thoughts -Not bad, a little sad looking, but simply it looks like a Golf, which I can’t be mad about. Will be interesting to see the rear and interior shots when they debut. I think it’s much cleaner and more understated than the large nose on the new Jetta and Passat.

Doesn’t look good to me in that shot. Something about the roof line/C-Pillar just looks wrong to me, gives the impression of a cheap economy car, definitely not sporty enough to wear a GTI badge. The grill looks weird as well (too tall?) but the photo did a pretty bad job capturing it. I’m trusting that this shot is actually real given the article, but if you just showed me this picture, I would assume someone had shopped a VW badge on to some other crappier eurohatch.

yup make it skinnier, and shorter at the back, so you cant see out of it, and its harder to get things into. Makes sense to me. At least they haven’t given it the ever popular up- swept belt line and high rear window I hate that look more an more with each new design that follows it.

No idea. That would be awesome if it did, but I’m guessing they wouldn’t add that on a Golf/GTI in the American market. 12v Hybridization should be coming, however.

This is true. When I put my MKVI and MKVII next to each other you would assume the MKVI would be shorter. Nope. It’s like someone took a MKVI and pushed it down. So the MKVII got longer, wider, and lower.

Yup..I think this 3/4 shot still looks better than the new Mazda3's weird belt-line, but man this back window looks tiny.

Yeah I’m all about reserving final judgement till it’s actually revealed, but initially, I much prefer the current version. It still looks like a Golf to me, but I can see what you’re saying.

But I will give them credit for being less stupid with the MKVII and not calling it a Jetta. I never understood why they called the MKVI estate a Jetta Sportwagon.

The roof looks droopy in the back - Should help with aero as well as keeping the back end a bit cleaner.

Will withhold further judgement until seeing the interior as well as the GTI version.
